Gel toe protection

Protecting the toes from footwear or a rubbing shoe has not always been easy. Products on the market used for toes like animal wool used to be quite dangerous. This product would be wound tightly round toes to protect them. Sometimes it was known for the very elderly to leave the wool in place for days on end, slowly shrinking and constricting the circulation. Several cases were known to have caused severe circulatory problems.

Thankfully it's not necessary to use animal wool today. Silicone (really a polymer gel) coated gel tubes (top) or silicone sleeves protect the toes (middle). They are so easy to use and a certain amount of mineral oil comes from the gel to help soften the skin. Precautions are that they are not worn for more that 12 hrs and of course are not worn in bed.The gel tubes can also be cut to length making an economical product and they can be washed as well. There are other products using this modern protective product (last) this one to protect the ankle bone (malleolus) The product can also be used to protect the stump of an amputee.
